Why subscribe?

I’m Jasmine, a 24 year-old writer + cultural worker, political educator, budding community herbalist, and all the other journeys I’m on in this life [insert here]. I was born and raised in Memphis, and I do a lot of thinking about what it means to be Black, queer, left, and love the South. Most of the time.

Like me, you look to music and texts of the past and present for lessons on navigating late-stage capitalism. You’re curious about how afrofuturism and sci-fi can give us the tools to succeed in apocalypse, and wonder about how people of past empires managed to bring them down. You know that the world gives us lots of reason to be blue, and sometimes that’s best captured in song. This is a conglomeration of cultural work, so expect a little bit of everything.
